The Spearhead. Born for Iwo Jima. Gone When It Was Done.
No division in Marine Corps history has a story like the 5th. Activated in January 1944. Trained. Shipped to the Pacific. Assaulted the black sand beaches of Iwo Jima on February 19, 1945. Raised the flag on Mount Suribachi. Fought through 36 days of the most savage combat in the Pacific War. Then deactivated — their mission complete, their sacrifice permanent. The 5th Marine Division Diamond Plate Blackout T-Shirt honors that singular legacy in the darkest, most uncompromising form possible — bold industrial diamond plate graphics on an all-dark tactical palette, for those who carry the memory of the Spearhead and know exactly what it cost.

The Story Behind the Blackout: On February 23, 1945 — four days into the battle for Iwo Jima — Marines of the 5th Division’s 28th Regiment reached the summit of Mount Suribachi and raised the American flag. Joe Rosenthal’s photograph of that moment became the most reproduced image in the history of photography and the model for the Marine Corps War Memorial. But the flag raising was not the end. It was barely the beginning. The 5th Marine Division fought for 32 more days across the most heavily fortified eight square miles in the history of warfare. When it was over, they had suffered nearly 9,000 casualties. Then they went home. Then they were deactivated. The Blackout Edition carries that weight — dark, deliberate, and built for those who understand that some sacrifices are too large for bright colors.
Perfect For: 5th Marine Division veterans and their families, Iwo Jima battle descendants and historians, WWII Pacific theater veterans and supporters, Marines who carry the legacy of Suribachi, and anyone who understands what the Spearhead gave and wears that knowledge with reverence.
