"Fly With The U.S. Marines," depicts a DH-4 liberty plane in flight. The liberty engine was designed by the U.S. air force without a specific airframe size in mind. As it turned out, the engine was too large for the Allies’ airplanes. The U.S. could not sell their newly designed engines to the allies, and the airplane was too heavy to perform as a fighter plane. The liberty plane was consequently fitted for bombing and reconnaissance.
